Games that go Beep in the Night

Peering through the veil of game dev; a seance of video games and TTRPGS.

Check it out on Substack here!

Hello Creatures 𖢘

Welcome to my blog, Games that go Beep in the Night!  My name is Jen, or Kindlsticks online, and I'm a game developer and artist based in CT.  I'm also one of the creators of Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion and Turnip Boy Robs a Bank.

When working on the Turnip Boy games, I got to help launch the studio, build the community, and develop the IP from a little baby junior in college, and for about 6 years thereafter as a Creative Director and artist!  If you're interested in more behind-the-scenes, check it out here.

A New Chapter ₊ ⊹☆

Nowadays, I've been rediscovering my inner creative and entering a new chapter of my life, and I want to share the journey with others along the way! The games industry can feel harrowing at times, and by sharing my ups and downs, I hope to help others along their journey, too.

In this blog, we will be peering through the veil of game development!  I'll be embarking on a seance of different video games, books, and maybe even TTRPGS. And of course, I'll share my journey of making games! I've been dipping my toes in making games under the studio name Hagstone Games, so you may see me mention that here or there.

The Deets 🕯

I'm currently going through a feverish bout of game jamming to learn more about Godot and programming.  If you'd like to follow along, here are some helpful links... and of course... feel free to subscribe to this blog for devlogs! If you already have... tysm!

I'm a strong believer in sharing knowledge in an accessible way, which is why I'm keeping this free for now! If you've joined the free subscription (ily), you'll have access to:

  • Devlogs
  • Tips & Tricks
  • Little Essays/Deep dives on a variety of dev topics
  • Blurbs about obscure games
  • The community chat
  • And maybe game jams in our future???

If you would like to support me (I would be eternally grateful), here are a couple of ways you can do so:

  • Becoming a monthly subscriber to this blog
    • (I want to brainstorm ways to add an additional perk to this. Stay tuned!)
  • Donating to my Kofi
  • Sharing this blog with those you'd think would enjoy it
  • Playing and supporting the games I'm working on
  • Sharing your thoughts and leaving comments, because I'd love to hear them!

The Goal ⁺˖⋆✧₊⁺

My main goal is to build up the skill to write and talk consistently about the games I'm making.  I love writing, but writing about myself as a typical indie introvert is daunting! I will endeavor to be brave. Thank you for reading, and I hope you join this little indie coven!
